The cat who rose from the dead

Romeo had been buried and mourned for. Our beloved pet, Romey the cat, was discovered dead while I was in Dublin and Jan was in Florida. Turns out, while we were mourning and missing Romeo for 5-6 weeks, he’d been locked in a friend’s basement with no food and water!

Apparently his caretaker Laurie had found a different dead cat that looked similar, so she buried him/her thinking it was Romey. When Jan returned from holidays a couple of weeks ago, she heard a cat meowing in the friend’s basement.

You can imagine Jan’s surprise when she found her beloved Romeo, and my surprise when she brought him home! It was a real shocker. He’d been locked in the basement for 5+ weeks with no food and water! Somehow he’d managed to survive — mice? a miracle?

I dedicated a photo album to him: Romeo the Miracle Kitty We’re so happy he’s alive! Romey’s a sweet kitty. Only 8 lives to go…

Geez 5-6 weeks? That’s really something. How much weight did he lose?

Romeo was a small cat to begin with (not fat), and he did lose a couple of pounds. When we found him, Jan thought he looked too boney but I thought he looked ok — a little skinny but not too emaciated. The amazing part of the story is that he lived without water for 5-6 weeks — he must have found a water source, or eaten lots of watery mice!

Not to worry, he’s managed to put back all the weight, and maybe even a bit extra. (hmmm…that seems like a familiar story for dieters…)

hey whaddya mean i rose from the dead? i was never dead!! you just abandoned me and kept me locked in a basement for a loooong time. thank goodness my mama came back and heard my cries! now I get canned food twice a day and all the lovin’ from these women that live with me. they tell me I live up to my name ‘Romeo’.
